Zumiez Store Shoplifting Leads to the Arrest of Two @ Wrentham Village Outlets

On February 13, 2011 Wrentham Police received a call for a shoplifting at the Zumiez Store and was informed the suspects were being followed by a female store employee. Officer Dave Halloway and Det. Lt. Bill McGrath were working a detail at the mall and immediately responded to assist the store employee.

Det. Lt. McGrath arrested Jose Melgar-Arevalo, age 17, of
94 Bain Street, Cranston, RI
for shoplifting. Mr. Arevalo was arrested in the parking lot as he attempted to elude capture. The suspect’s vehicle contained additional stolen merchandise from a variety of stores at the mall along with a quantity of suspected marijuana.

At the time of his arrest, Mr. Arevalo was carrying a plastic shopping bag lined with material designed to by pass inventory control systems located at store exit doors. Stolen merchandise was also recovered from beneath a car, dumped there by the suspect as he attempted to escape. The suspect was transported to the Wrentham Police station and booked by Officer O’Connell.

At about 3:30 p.m., Det. Lt. McGrath and Officer Halloway located and arrested the second suspect, identified Ikema Ezikpe, age 17, of
955 Post Road, Warwick, RI
. Mr. Ezikpe was also charged with shoplifting. As was the case with Mr. Arevalo, Mr. Ezikpe had been carrying a plastic shopping bag lined with material designed to defeat inventory control systems.

Both suspects were booked in the usual manner and later bailed. They appeared at Wrentham District Court on February 14, 2011 for arraignment.
