Shoplifters Captured At WVPO After Stealing Close To $5000.00 Worth Of Merchandise

Glanisha Crump
Columbia Road, South Boston, MA

Kamilah Fuller-Givens
Alpha Road, Dorchester (Boston), MA

Chandra Ann Wilkerson
Sutton Street, Mattapan, MA
These three Boston residents were apprehended after being suspected of stealing merchandise from the True Religion outlet at the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets.

Store employees became suspicious of the three when they began handling several pairs of jeans.  Employees of True Religion discovered cut sensor tags on the floor in the area and were unable to locate the jeans the three were handling.  When employees began watching the three more closely, they became openly agitated and intimidating.  At one point, it is alleged that one of the suspects directly insulted an employee.

Detective Lieutenant McGrath happened to be in the area and was made aware of the incident by the manager at True Religion.   Lt. McGrath identified the three suspects and also identified a van in the parking lot  they were using to store their stolen haul.

When the three began to drive out of the parking lot, Lt. McGrath called for marked cruisers to assist in stopping the vehicle.  Officers Hearon and O'Connell arrived and assisted with the stop and the subsequent arrest of the three.

The three women were  taken to the Wrentham Police station where they were booked and processed.  They were all later released on bail and recognizance and appeared for arraignment at the Wrentham District Court the following morning.

All three were charged with more than a dozen offenses.  Good police work recovered almost $5000.00 of stolen merchandise.

Lengthy Investigation Leads to Criminal Charges

Cindy Harris
Woonsocket, RI
In late October, 2010, Pond Home administration contacted the Wrentham Police Department to report that several residents were reporting jewelry and cash missing.  This initial report led to the investigation of Cindy Harris, a newly hired CNA (certified nursing assistant) from Woonsocket, RI.

McGrath decided that enough probable cause existed to file a criminal complaint against her for multiple charges of larceny.

The total amount of valuables taken are in excess of $10,000.00 in jewelry and at least $500.00 cash.

Theft from Burberry at the Premium Outlets leads to arrest

Brenda Correa-Guzman
Queens, NY
This evening, undercover Wrentham Police Officer Ed Fitzgerald arrested Correa-Guzman for stealing more than $1800.00 worth of merchandise from the Burberry store at the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets.  The officer observed Correa-Guzman holding a lined 'booster bag' while the man she was with stuffed the bag with merchandise.

The classic 'booster bags' police are seeing at the Premium Outlets are shopping bags lined with a metallic tape.  These bags are made by thieves to defeat the magnetic door alarms that are triggered by tagged merchandise.

The undercover officer was able to apprehend Correa-Guzman but the male suspect fled from the scene.  Wrentham Officers from both the day shift (8am-4pm) and the incoming evening shift (4pm-12am) searched the mall area, but were unable to find the man.  It is believed the two came from New York with the intent to steal from the outlet mall.

Correa-Guzman was taken to the police station where she was booked and processed.  ICE was contacted as well.  Correa-Guzman was released on personal recognizance and must appear at the Wrentham District Court in the morning.

One Arrested, Two Others Charged / Premium Outlets

Kimberly Curry
Attleboro, MA
This evening Kimberly Curry of Attleboro was arrested for receiving stolen property with a value more than $250.00 (making it a felony).  What began as a call for a shoplifter in the Cracker Barrel Store / Restaurant, turned in to a pursuit of a gold colored minivan on Rt 1A ending on Green Street.

Officer Steve Saulnier was first to respond to the Cracker Barrel and observed the suspect vehicle leaving the mall property and turning onto Rt. 1A toward Plainville.  Sgt. James Barrett arrived at the intersection of the mall entrance and Rt. 1A, just as Off. Saulnier turned onto the main roadway.

Officer Steve Saulnier and Sgt. James Barrett stopped the minivan and discovered almost $700.00 worth of Yankee Candles in trash bags and boxes in the back seat area.  Curry was arrested for receiving stolen property.  The male driver and female passenger were allowed to drive away from the scene as their two small children were in the minivan with them.  The two will be charged with receiving stolen property over $250.00 also and possibly other charges.

After Curry was taken to the station, police believe the Cracker Barrel security cam images of the minivan a woman to be both the vehicle stopped tonight and Curry.

Curry was released on personal recognizance and will be arraigned in the morning.

The family contacted the police when Jollimore failed to show up for work in September.  Shortly thereafter, they began to discover property missing and filed a report after first trying to handle the situation on their own.

Sgt. James Barrett began an investigation that ultimately led to a confession by Jollimore to the theft of the victim's property.  He was assisted by Detective Barry McGrath and together, the two were able to obtain a confession, identify the jewelers and pawn shops Jollimore was selling the stolen items at, and recover some of the stolen property.

Although little was recovered,  Jollimore has been charged with larceny by the Wrentham Police.  Several former employers that Jollimore was using as references were notified of the charges being filed against her.

Tonight Officer George Labonte was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  Officer Labonte has been an officer with the Town of Wrentham for more than five years and becomes the fourth sergeant on the Wrentham Police Department.  His promotion will bring a supervisor to the over night shift; a position left vacant for the last several years due to severe budget constraints.

A full crowd of onlookers cheered as the officers were sworn in.  Sergeant Labonte's badge was pinned by his father.  Officer Coliflores's badge was pinned by his wife with his young daughter looking on.

House Break on Hawes Street

This afternoon a house on Hawes Street was broken into.  Access was gained by apparently forcing a locked door, shattering the bolts and locks.  The perpetrator did not take any valuable electronics or other pieces of pricey technology, but rather made his/her way directly to the master bedroom.  The thief made off with several jewelry boxes containing valuable pieces of jewelry.

The case is under investigation and appears similar to a break in Norfolk also reported today.

Man run over by truck on Clark Road

Beware of Schemes Exploiting Senior Citizens and Users of Facebook!

Less than six months ago, I received an 'instant message' via Facebook from a close friend telling me that he and his wife were the victims of a mugging in London.  I had no idea that my friend was traveling abroad, so naturally I was immediately concerned.  The dialogue went something like this...

"Hi James, <blank> and I are in serious trouble!  We were mugged last night in downtown London and all of our cash and credit cards were stolen!  We are going to miss our flight if we can't come up with $1500.00 immediately!  Can you help?"

Naturally, I wanted to help, but was very suspicious of the message.  Keep in mind... this was happening in 'real time' and was being sent to me as I sat in front of my computer.  They continued...

"James are you there?  We need the money sent Western Union ASAP!  Can you help us?"

I picked up my cell phone and called my friend in need.  He answered and told me that he was at work and his wife was at home.  I told him his Facebook account had been compromised (hacked) and that he should contact Facebook ASAP before someone is swindled out of money.

Sadly, my friend's niece sent $1500.00 and then another $1000.00 by debit card via Western Union before he managed to shut the account down.  She is only 21 years old and lost most of her savings.

Recently, Wrentham seniors have reported being swindled out of thousands of dollars by a similar scheme over the telephone.  I share my story because, even as a police officer for over 15 years, I felt compelled to do something to help my friends.  I was genuinely concerned!  Thankfully I had the presence of mind to make one simple phone call to check the story, or I too would have been swindled.

These types of thieves are incredibly sophisticated and resourceful.  Before you send anyone any money, PLEASE take the time to verify the information you are being given.  Call a friend or family member to help you figure out if the story is true or is just a scheme.

Senior citizens are frequently targets of schemes like this.  Please let your loved ones and friends know before their life savings are stolen.

Sgt. Jim Barrett

Civil Violations for Marijuana Possession to be Posted Online

Right now there are some conflicting reports on whether or not these citations are matters of public record.  If they are, then violators can expect to see their names on the Wrentham Police blog.

Police Chase and Struggle With Outlet Mall Thief

Parris H. Phillips
Roxbury, MA
39 years old
On October 17th, 2010 at or around 3:30PM, Officer Leary (on a police detail at the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets) saw two women chasing a man toward the parking lot at the Wrentham Village mall.  They pointed at him and screamed to Officer Leary that he had stolen from the store they worked in.  The two work at True Religion Jeans.

Officer Leary gave chase and after a brief struggle in the parking lot, managed to apprehend the suspect who was subsequently identified as PHILLIPS, Parris of Roxbury, MA. No one was insured in the scuffle.

An anonymous bystander provided information that PHILLIPS may have been one of four involved in criminal activity at the mall.  He stated that he saw PHILLIPS and the other men placing items into a car.  The car was identified and subsequent search revealed hundreds of dollars of stolen merchandise from the Timberland Store.

A second suspect was identified by Sgt. Smith and Officer Schwalbe immediately after the arrest of PHILLIPS, but victims were unable to positively identify him at the time.  Later video tape review at the stores confirmed this person's involvement in the criminal behavior.

PHILLIPS and the second suspect, identified as SILCOTT, Tyrone of Boston, MA, are charged with larceny over $250.00 a felony in Massachusetts.  Although these were the only two suspects identified, the police believe there were four men involved.  Property was recovered and returned to True Religion Jeans and Timberland.

The driver of the JP Noonan truck was rescued by passing motorists who stopped to assist, kicking in the windshield and pulling him to safety.

The accident is under investigation by Officer Stephen Saulnier of the Wrentham Police and Trooper Chan of the Mass State Police Truck Team. Fuel and other spills associated with this crash were addressed by the Mass Department of Environment Protection and Clean Harbors. Plainville Fire Department and Police Department assisted as well.
