Changes are in the wind!!!

The old Wrentham Police Website is being taken down.  Don't panic!!!  This new site will provide you with relevant and up to date information that the old website could not.

After a long discussion, it was determined that the best way to disseminate information to the public is through the Facebook, Twitter and Blog pages.  It is far too difficult to maintain a website without having a fulltime employee devoted to the task of keeping it up to date.  Blogs, Facebook and Twitter, on the other hand, can be easily updated by cell phone if necessary.

So it only makes sense for the Wrentham Police to support the pages we believe can help the public the most with the limited resources we must work with.

Over the next days and weeks, I will add links to this page that will allow users to download forms, crash reports and other documents directly rather than have to come to the station to get them.  I will keep you all updated when new resources become available.

Please bear with me over the weeks and months ahead... I am learning as I go!

If you have any concerns or comments, feel free to email feedback@police.wrentham.ma.us

Hurricane Irene Preparedness

The Town of Wrentham, including the Police Department, Office of Emergency Management, Fire Department and Department of Public Works have begun to prepare for the eventual arrival of Hurricane Irene which is currently projected to hit the Massachusetts area sometime this Sunday, August 28, 2011.
Possible Trajectory of Irene

Meteorologists are calling this hurricane one of the most significant weather events to hit the east coast of the United States in decades. They are recommending that people begin taking action immediately to prepare for significant damage caused by high wind and flooding rain.
The Wrentham Police Department encourages residents to begin taking steps immediately to prepare for a significant weather event. Flooding has the potential to have aggravated effects if residents lose power for a length of time and/or have to leave their homes. The loss of power may prevent residents from operating pumps and other electrical items in their home.
Residents should ensure that they have the following items at a minimum:
      1.  Battery operated flashlights
2. Battery operated radio
3. Extra batteries
4. Fresh drinking water (water bottles)
5. Cell phones charged
6. A “Go Bag” prepared with necessary items (clean clothes, medicine, water, etc) in the event you have to quickly leave your residence.
7. Vehicle filled with gasoline
8. If you have a generator or pump, make sure it is in working order.

2.      Unless evacuated, please stay in your homes for safety reasons.

3.      Additionally, residents should begin taking in outdoor furniture, umbrellas and any other items that may be damaged by the storm.
In the event of an emergency during the storm, residents should call 9-1-1. For all other inquiries or to report property damage, please contact the Police Department at 508-384-2121 to speak with a police dispatcher.
Updates will be sent via this service as more information becomes available. All residents are urged to track the movements of this storm via weather and news outlets and to take precautions as needed.

Midnight Shift Officers Arrest Thief

Catalytic Convertor Thief Arrested

Wrentham Police Sgt. George Labonte and Patrolman Scott Ellis arrested Jeffrey M. Waterman, age 38, of 900 Washington Street, Wrentham, MA for the attempted theft of catalytic converters from Turnpike Truck located on Route 1, Wrentham, MA.

Sgt. Labonte and Officer Ellis were both working the midnight to eight shift and decided to set up surveillance on Turnpike Truck and Helping Hands of America, two businesses where catalytic converter theft has been an on-going problem. In the course of the surveillance, Officer Ellis observed flashlight beams and notified Sgt. Labonte. The two officers set up a perimeter and then moved in to apprehend Waterman who was hiding on the property. Waterman was dressed in dark clothing, wearing a knit hat and gloves, was carrying a flashlight and had numerous sawzall blades in his possession. Also recovered were a cordless sawzall and a catalytic converter that had been cut from a vehicle.

Wrentham along with other communities has experienced increased incidents of catalytic converter thefts from local garages, car dealers and from the Wrentham Outlet Mall. The catalytic converter is an emission-controlling device that is a part of the exhaust system of many automobiles and trucks. The platinum on the converter makes it a valuable device at scrap yards where thieves turn them in for cash. The units are generally removed very quickly with a sawzall tool, hacksaw or pipe cutter.

Waterman was placed under arrest and taken the Wrentham police station for booking. Wrentham, Norfolk and State Police K9 searched the area for additional suspects to no avail. The investigation is continuing.
